sabbatical pastor

We are so excited to share the news that Dawn Jefferson will serve as our Sabbatical Pastor. Dawn's first Sunday with us will be on May 9th, 2021. Dawn is a 3rd year Masters of Divinity candidate seeking ordination in the United Church of Christ. She lives with her wife, Marquita, in Alexandria, VA.

Dawn is a native New Yorker from Westchester County who has enjoyed returning to the East Coast after a 4-year stint living in Oakland, CA, teaching English, and serving as a dean at a private school in San Francisco to resolve her 16-year career as an educator. In seminary, Dawn has been researching the practical theology of dementia, considering the intentional ministry we offer to older adults and the people who care for them in order to investigate intersections of pastoral care ministry and end-of-life theology.

At Yale Divinity School, Dawn is a member of the Andover Newton Theological Seminary community where she serves with the student steering committee and belongs to Yale Black Seminarians and DivOut. She enjoys singing and worship, poetry, drama, and film. In her spare time, she loves to explore technologies that connect communities and hopes to visit more national parks when they reopen. Presently, a member of the Spring Glen UCC in Hamden, CT, Dawn plans to return to Virginia after graduation in 2021.

Dawn's most recent church experience as Supervised Ministry Intern and Communities Care Coordinator at the Little River UCC in Annandale, VA, last summer, allowed a number of opportunities for Dawn to preach sermons, which can be found at the Little River UCC YouTube channel. Dawn will be remotely participating in our worship services, preaching about three times a month. She hopes to be present in our area for a visit in June.

Senior Minister

(on Sabbatical from May 1 - August 15, 2021)

The Rev. Robert (Bob) Brown is Senior Minister at Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, MA.  Bob has brought his previous career experience to our online platform, creating a vibrant and engaging worship experience during this time of Zoom and YouTube services.  Bob creates opportunities for individuals and small groups at TriCon to grow deeper in the Christian life and faith.  He and his wife are spending the few months of his Sabbatical engaging in green-living, building a small dwelling on property on an island in Maine's Casco Bay, discovering ways to utilize local, sustainable materials and renewable utilities.  Bob's view on environmentalism is a rich, spiritual practice.  "Reconnecting with the wild places, I sense God's wonder and vastness."

He was ordained by the UCC in November of 2010. During seminary he served as an intern minister at Old South Church in Boston and was an active member of Hope Church in Jamaica Plain. Bob holds 2 B.S. degrees in Communications from Emerson College in Boston and a Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological Seminary. Prior to his call to ministry, Bob enjoyed a long career as a film and television director in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles.

He is a devoted father of five adult children and stepchildren.  Bob and his wife, artist, Natalie Gardner live in Maynard.  Together they love to hike, bike, paddle and photograph the beautiful New England landscape.  In 2014, during his last sabbatical, Bob and Natalie walked El Camino De Santiago, El Norte, a 500-mile pilgrimage in Spain along the Spanish coast.
