Combating Homelessness

The interfaith Advocacy Network to End Family Homelessness was formed in response to the worsening housing and homelessness crisis in Massachusetts. The Network is committed to eliminating the root causes of family homelessness through public education and advocacy. As a result of calls and letters from Network members, district Mass. lawmakers added our Network's key homelessness prevention programs to their priority lists and actively supported them when these budget measures were debated.

The Advocacy Network organizes community education on family homelessness through its annual interfaith forum co-sponsored by congregations, schools, and community groups in Concord, Acton, Sudbury, Lincoln, Stow, Maynard, and Carlisle.  These forums, along with letters to the editor, expand understanding of the causes of family homelessness and highlight its remedies. The 2009 forum, on implementing the report of the Mass. Commission to End Homelessness, will be held on Sunday, January 25th, at 7:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord.

See the Advocacy Network web site for more information on family homelessness, on key homelessness prevention issues, and on how your voice can help make a difference. For more information or to receive legislative issue email alerts during the spring Mass. budget deliberations, go near the bottom of this web page and click on one or more of the Family Homelessness Advocacy Opportunities options.

The Advocacy Network is supported by Tricon's Social Concerns committee.
